Year of New Beer: Oak Aged Rye IPA, Founders Brewing (MI)

Written By: Dion on 09/02/2014

The commemorative beer of the AHA National Homebrewer's Convention, this has never been released to the general public. The nose opens with a definite rye spice, alcohol soaked apricots, and mere hints of oak. On the tongue, however, the biggest initial hit is all about the oak. Very woody and spicy, with a caramel undercurrent that proves to be a nearly perfect balance to the bitter, dry finish. A really unique beer that I enjoyed immensely as it transformed upon warming in my glass. Huge thanks to Barrett Allen for giving me the chance to try this fantastic brew.
