Year of New Beer: Older Viscosity, Tequila Aged Sucre, Vampire Slayer

An impromptu tasting with 3 friends led to the sharing of 4 really good beers, 3 of them new to me. First up was a 2006 Older Viscosity, Port Brewing (CA). Lots of booze on the nose, fairly remarkable for an 8 year old beer. On the tongue is a pronounced heat with a brown sugar, dark fruit element. Just a touch thinner on the body than was expected. Next up was Tequila Barrel Aged Sucre, The Bruery (CA). Surprisingly sweet on the nose with traces of chocolate and ripened berries. Very similar in the taste department as the tequila influence is subtle but provides enough heat to balance a caramel sweetness. Lastly was the since retired Vampire Slayer, Clown Shoes Brewing (MA). Less complex on the nose, providing a chocolate and coffee mixture. On the tongue is not a lot of depth, but hints of smoked wood add a nice touch. Oh, the 4th beer? Just a half growler of 2013 Bourbon County Stout. All in all, not a bad beer day.
