Year of New Beer: Proprietor's Bourbon County Brand Stout (2014) and Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout

Written By: Dion on 01/17/2015

On a night when so many awesome (and new, at least to me) beers are opened, it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite. But tonight, two beers stood out. The Proprietor's featured a unique blend of coconut and a spicy, almost cinnamon-like bite sitting atop the phenomenal base of chocolate and bourbon that defines Bourbon Co. Stout. Many thanks to Matt Huber for his generosity in sharing this beer. Secondly was the Rare Bourbon County, aged 2 years in 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle barrels. For the bourbon aficionados, nothing else needs to be said. You have beers aged in bourbon barrels, and you have beer aged in 23 year old Pappy barrels. Truly, there is a difference in the overall smoothness of the beer. Absolutely incredible. Thanks to Chris Vandergrift for bringing this gem. Drinking these outstanding beers is a treat that defies description, but it's the friendships I have made in these last few years that I truly cherish. Thanks to all of you for making this a birthday to remember.
