Year of New Beer: Abrasive Ale, Surly Brewing (MN)

Citrus and tropical fruit aromas practically jump out of the glass as tangerine, pineapple, and grapefruit all are noted, while a bit of boxwood and honey lie underneath. On the tongue comes sticky, juicy fruit that offers up a touch of orange marmalade sweetness before the bitterness presents in the form of pine, citrus pith, and fresh cut grasses. A touch of alcohol heat as the glass warms and dries out the tongue. Stunning to me how the hops have held on with such intensity in a beer that's been canned for two months. Excellent.
