Year of New Beer: Sixfold: XII Brett'd Golden Ale, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

It's rarified air. A feeling that's difficult to explain. I've been there twice, maybe three times when playing golf. Elite level athletes are quite familiar with it. What is it? It's "The Zone". When you're on your game, and seemingly everything you shoot, throw, or in this case--brew, hits its mark. I've said it many times...we are fortunate to have multiple quality breweries in Lexington, and over the years, West 6th has just gotten stronger and more dialed in. Not overly complex, the nose is laden with the skins of unripened peaches and the faintest hints of tart white grapes. Dusty hay and the expected "barnyard" funk only increase with warmth. On the tongue, the sour aspect is present but restrained, stopping short of puckering. Peach and golden apples are augmented by a touch of oak and field grasses. Brett can sometimes overpower a beer to the point of distraction. This is not the case here, as this is, in my opinion, beautifully balanced. West 6th is indeed, in The Zone.
