Year of New Beer: Double Bastard in the Rye, Stone Brewing (CA)

Resinous pine, orange peel, caramel, and a dominant rye whiskey spice on the nose. On the tongue, this is boozy, hoppy bitterness, tempered only slightly by the oak, vanilla, and caramel tones provided by the barrel. Hard to believe this still has such a pithy, citrus hop bite after well over a year in the bottle. Good, not great.
