Year of New Beer: Tessie, Mile Wide Brewing Co (Louisville)

So the hazy, "New England IPA" is all the rage right now. Turbidity is the name of the game, and no Kentucky brewery has embraced the style quite like the new kid on the block over in the Ville. Pineapple, peach, nectarine, and loads of grapefruit peel greet the nose, with lesser hints of cut grass and subtle caramel malt. I usually note changes in the aroma as a beer warms, but honestly, this one didn't last long enough for that. On the tongue, this is all about fruity, juicy goodness. Grapefruit and orange pith work in conjunction with a slightly dank herbal note to provide a modestly bitter bite, but everything smooths out beautifully as a hint of caramel arrives on the backend. The end result is an incredibly delicious, extremely easy-drinking beer. My timetable for a visit to the taproom just shortened considerably. The Lexington/NKY/Louisville beer community is awesome.
