Year of New Beer: Mastodon Mother Puncher, Mikkeller (Denmark)

No mistaking the farmhouse funk on this one as a dusty hay and Brettanomyces strike the nose first, then give way to a sweeter passion fruit, with lesser notes of apricot and apple skin. On the tongue, this walks the line between hoppy and sour, with tart fruit standing in contrast to the floral hop presence and dry spice that hit the mid-palate. With warmth, the fruit sweetens just a bit, counteracted again by a slight peppery note more akin to traditional saisons. Very unusual, but still pretty refreshing.
