Year of New Beer: Raznarök, Central State Brewery (Indianapolis)

Tart raspberries hit the nose initially, with warmth bringing roasty malts and hints of cocoa powder. On the tongue, the raspberries are at first very sour and seem to clash a bit with the wild yeast nature of the beer. As the chill fades, however, the tartness of the berries seems to become much more integrated, enveloped by traces of chocolate and espresso. Finishes surprisingly light and dry. Not sure where they hid the alcohol in this one. This is a great example of how "dark beer" doesn't automatically mean "heavy beer." Very enjoyable.
