Year of New Beer: Barrel Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

Written By: Dion on 10/11/2017

Using barrels hand selected by Liquor Barn, the brewers at West 6th deliver a silky smooth brew sure to please beer and bourbon aficionados alike. The nose leaves little doubt as to where this beverage has slumbered, as the oaky, vanilla undertones of bourbon dominate the aroma. Light cocoa powder and traces of plum and raisin round out the enticing olfactory trip. On the tongue, the alcohol is sweet, presenting with a bourbon cola tilt. Warmth brings a richness as the oak and vanilla become more prominent, softened nicely by the oat presence of the base beer. Nice bitter chocolate and coffee bean bite on the back-end. A little thin? Maybe. But I'm certainly not complaining about the money I spent on this one. The end result is a delicious sipper that only gets better through the glass.
