Year of New Beer: Sumi Cacao, Grimm Artisanal Ales (NY)

Rich, bittersweet chocolate and coffee bean on the nose, augmented by charred malt and a hint of smoke. Only near the end of the glass does a creamy sweet vanilla reveal itself. On the tongue, the coffee acidity is strong, with a sturdy, earthy bitterness being tempered slightly by notes of brown sugar and cream. A heavy roast and chocolate malt linger through the finish. Very nice imperial stout.
