Year of New Beer: Henderson County, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

I can only assume that last year's unseasonably mild temperatures are what led to my purchasing, and then promptly forgetting about this rum barrel aged winter warmer. So today, it becomes a nice accompaniment to a Thanksgiving feast. The nose is greeted by the nutmeg, brown sugar, gingerbread, and cola notes of the base Christmas Ale. Warmth allows an earthy spiced rum to join the fray. On the tongue, dark fruits and a fleeting chocolate note are augmented by bread crust and those same seasonal spices. The rum influence is noticeable, providing a peppery bite before smoothing out into a slightly sweet rum and coke finish. Good stuff.
