Year of New Beer: Bourbon County Brand Stout Reserve 2017, Goose Island Beer Co (Chicago)

Rich notes of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits are intertwined with bourbon-soaked oak and charred malts to create an olfactory delight. On the tongue, the Knob Creek bourbon influence takes center stage as this is one boozy beast. With warmth, however, caramel tones combine with raisin and plum to produce a sweet, port-like effect. Charred oak and bittersweet chocolate linger through a vanilla-tinged, bourbon-heavy finish. Very good now, and likely better for those who have the willpower to cellar any extra bottles.
