Year of New Beer: French Oak Saison, New Belgium Brewing (CO)

Golden apples, white grapes, and lemon zest combine with a musty wheat and bready yeast on the nose. On the tongue is a sharp fruit tartness, with apples and lemon again leading the way, joined by an unripened peach as the glass warms. The rising temperature allows a soft, white wine sweetness to creep in, with a funky oak and mild pepper spice adding interest. Pretty tasty brew, especially at less than $9.
