Year of New Beer: Barrel Aged Wooley Swamp, Country Boy Brewing (Lexington)

This beast of an imperial stout gets a short nap in some KY bourbon barrels, producing a rich, sweet treat for the senses. Still plenty of roast and char on the nose, but a subtle bourbon and oak sneaks in to add a little complexity. On the tongue, the barrel character is evident, with a sweet vanilla and caramel-laden bourbon note settling in atop slightly bitter chocolate, charred oak, and toast. Smooth and sneaky, not drinking like its listed ABV. Well done, Boys.
