Year of New Beer: I Got Dibs, Maiden City Brewing (Cynthiana)

Written By: Dion on 03/14/2018

With the success of their Comin' In Hot Ginger Braggot, it should come as no surprise that the folks at Maiden City would return to the style from time to time. For St. Patrick's Day, they've not only returned, but they have given it a bit of mad scientist treatment as well. This "Double India Pale Braggot" gets a whopping dose of hops and results in a dangerously drinkable beast. Spiced citrus and honeysuckle open a nose that features hints of evergreen and cured tobacco atop toasted bread crust and light caramel. On the tongue, grapefruit pith and dank grasses are tempered slightly by an underlying honey sweetness. A sturdy malt base provides more of the toasted bread note along the mid-palate before allowing the hop bitterness to build toward a sticky, resinous finish. Only with warmth does the sneaky 10.1% ABV begin to flex its muscle. This is delicious. Big, old school, double IPA delicious. With a fantastic honey twist. Outstanding work being done in little ol' Cynthiana. Come and get it this Saturday!
