Year of New Beer: Single Barrel Belgian Style Quad, Hi-Wire Brewing (Asheville)

An effervescent pour yields a nose of slightly sour cooked apples, grapes, and toffee. Gets a touch sweeter with warmth. The aroma is a solid indicator of taste here, as apples, figs, and tart plums lead the way. As the glass warms, caramel and bread dough begin to emerge, with a trailing purple grape lingering in the background. This just never quite gets the spicy Belgian yeast quality to come out like I had hoped. Decent beer, but it pales in comparison to virtually every Belgian quad produced in Lexington in the last year or so. Beer friends, we've got it so good in this area.
