Year of New Beer: Country Western Volume Six, Country Boy Brewing/West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

Early May means one thing to beer nerds...Lexington Craft Beer Week. And with it comes the de facto kickoff event, the annual release of the CBB/W6th collaboration beer. This year's edition is an "experimental Double IPA", and I can attest that it lives up to its name. The nose is laden with a floral perfume that gives way to woody undertones of cedar, as well as light pine and sweet pineapple. Suggestions of coconut arrive with warmth. The aroma transitions well to the tongue as the flavors seem to vacillate between tropical fruits and dry grasses. Hints of honey, grapefruit pith, and a warming alcohol on a dry, moderately bitter finish. Very unique aroma and flavor profiles, especially if you let it breathe. Another nice chapter in the Country Western story. Available in 4 packs at both taprooms beginning tomorrow.
