Year of New Beer: Unicorn Killer, 2nd Shift Brewing (St. Louis)

Written By: Dion on 07/06/2018

For some reason, I passed on this beer when it first came to our market back in late 2016. Anyway, popping the cap leads to a gusher that takes about a third of the bottle and leaves me expecting a drain pour. On the nose is a really nice blend of white grape, lemon zest, and clove atop a funky, dried hay base. On the tongue, the white grape offers an initial sweetness alongside notes of fresh wheat bread. A seltzer-like bite and lingering spiciness works well with the dry, funky yeast. Despite the rocky start, this turned out to be a very enjoyable brew.
