Year of New Beer: Blueberry Raspberry Milkshake IPA, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

Blurring established style guidelines, this one takes characteristics of more traditional IPAs and and adds fruit and lactose for a delicious twist. The nose features subdued berries with hints of citrus. Warmth brings a touch of vanilla. On the tongue, this presents initially with an unripened berry tartness and citrus pith. It's not until the glass warms a bit that the blueberry and raspberry become more discernible. The lactose and vanilla step in at this point to sweeten and smooth out the hop bite. I don't have the skills to debate whether or not this is still an IPA. I do have enough skills to tell you it's delicious. Your mileage may vary.
