Year of New Beer: Quadruple Barrel Big Bad Baptist, Epic Brewing (UT)

Closing out seven years of new beers. 2,557 straight days of tasting a beer I've never tasted before, every single day. I'm not sure if I'm bored, or if our local beer scene just has me spoiled, but it's getting harder and harder to get my attention. This one opens with a lot of chocolate, backed by waves of almond, coffee and nuts. Not as much bourbon as I was expecting, but does have a nice, albeit subtle, coconut note. More depth on the tongue, as the rum barrel component offers up hints of cinnamon, with oak and vanilla in the background. Warmth brings a slightly astringent coffee note that thankfully succumbs to chocolate and coconut alongside an earthy, roasted malt. I was really excited about this beer, and it's very good. But it's no better than many beers I've had from Lexington breweries. Not sure how many more days I'll keep up TYONB, but I am sure 2019 will include even more local brews.
