Year of New Beer (Special Release): Warehouse Experiment #3, Country Boy Brewing (Lexington)

Sure, I'm nearly 900 miles away, but that's not gonna stop me from spreading the word on a new CBB release. Available for a while in the taproom, this one sees a bottle for the first time this Friday. With a nose that starts as rum spiced coffee and warms to red wine, this is a departure from the norm in regards to Country Boy stouts. The tongue starts a bit sour before softening under dark fruit sweetness, as grapes and cassis berry come to mind. The rum spice is still prevalent through the mid-palate, but is joined by a sturdy bourbon soaked oaken char. Cola and even a trace of mint-like flavor are present as well. I would like to see what a little age would do to this beer. I love the experimentation and inventiveness going on down on Chair Avenue. The boys are always pushing boundaries, as is evident with the release of not only this bottle, but also the Barreled Hale's Bales Gruit this Friday as well. Brewed in collaboration with Schlafly, this ancient herbed ale has been given the barrel treatment, resulting in a beer that challenges conventional tastes with layers of fruit and spice. Two bottle releases, a Schlafly tap takeover, and Rolling Oven Pizza? Chair Avenue is the place to be this Friday.
