Year of New Beer: Vintage Cask Aged Harvest Ales, JW Lees & Co (England)

Priviliged tonight to take part in a tasting of five different bottles, ranging from 4 years to 12 years in age, all of which had been aged in a different cask--Calvados, Lagavulin whisky, port, and sherry. Interesting was the intensity of the sweetness emanating from the older bottles. Brown sugar and dark fruits in starring roles with traces of woody spice and alcohols. Much more mature and complex than their little brothers. Probably would give the nod to the 2003 Port.
