Year of New Beer: Space Cake, Clown Shoes (MA)

Even though I've been slowly delving more into sours and funky beers, my favorite style remains the IPA. More specifically, the Double IPA. This one does not disappoint. The nose starts off super dank, with an herbal leafiness that permeates the senses. With warmth, a wealth of tropical fruits join in. On the tongue, fruits abound. Mango, guava, and pineapple overpower lesser notes of sticky, resinous evergreen. Caramel and Graham cracker malts back a slight honey sweetness, providing a nice platform for a building but not dominating alcohol burn. I'm not sure what a few more weeks would do to this, but if you find a bottle dated at two weeks or less like this one...buy it. And the one behind it.
