Year of New Beer: Old Guardian Barleywine Vertical, Stone Brewing (CA)

Ranging from 2005 through 2015 (less the '08), this was an interesting tasting. The '05 and '06 were probably my favorites, walking a fine line between caramel sweetness and a surprising amount of earthy hop bitterness. The '09 and '10 were off in aroma and flavor, both nearly vegetal in their presentation. The two newest vintages were good, but the hops were a little harsh and in need of time. Always a good time sampling beers with a group of people that teach me something every single time out.
