Year of New Beer: Sang Noir, Cascade Brewing (OR)

Bottle shares among beer nerds are pretty awesome. They are always a great opportunity to open something you've been holding for a while, and you get to enjoy them with like-minded people. The only negative for me is picking just one of usually multiple great beers to feature as my New Beer. Tonight was no different, as several good bottles were opened. One, however, stood out from the crowd. Tart to the nose with lactic acid and cherries, while lighter musty notes of oak and damp leather show up as well. The cherries provide a significant bite to the tongue, along with a vinous red wine note that is balanced nicely by the earthy, woody tones present throughout. Just enough dry, musty funk for added interest. Phenomenal beer.
