Year of New Beer: Coffee Bender, Surly Brewing (MN)

Somehow, a coffee beer seemed appropriate for this blustery day. The nose is full of what seems to be chocolate covered coffee beans, with an underlying roasted nut quality. On the tongue, the chocolate sweetness is less than I was expecting as the bitter roast of the coffee takes over, augmented by bread crust and light, earthy hops. Very smooth and drinkable.
