Year of New Beer: Lanthrone, Jackie O's Pub & Brewery (OH)

The nose is rich and complex as your senses are hit with bourbon, caramel, oak, and hints of butterscotch. On the tongue is a lush array of flavors, with brown sugar and sweet dessert breads leading the way. Traces of chocolate are intertwined with vanilla, raisin, and a dominating bourbon presence. This is much more barleywine than it is amber ale, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Despite the obvious bourbon influence, the overall alcohol is very well integrated. As is the case with most everything Jackie O's, this is exquisite.
