Year of New Beer: Eugene, Revolution Brewing (Chicago)

Semi-sweet chocolate with mildly roasted nuts and coffee beans on the nose. The flavor is all that and more as the balance between the sweetness and acidity is nearly perfect. Smooth with hints of creamy vanilla and wood tones, with just enough hop presence to give a little bite. Whereas many porters end up thin and almost astringent, this one has a layered depth of flavor that is quite nice. Excellent.
