Year of New Beer: Big Red Coq, Brewery Vivant (MI)

Make your jokes about the name, but this is a serious beer. Floral hops, Belgian yeast, touches of caramel and wisps of smoke that remind me of spent fireworks. Very unusual. In the flavor department-hops up front, some toasted bread mid-palate, followed by a crisp and mildly spicy, dry finish. Different, but good.
