Year of New Beer: Trappist Westvleteren 12 (XII) - Brouwerij Westvleteren

Decided to open one of the two bottles I received from my beer friend in the Netherlands earlier in the year, saving the U.S. released versions for a later comparison. Very sweet, almost candied fruit on the nose-most notably grapes. The grapes make their presence felt in the taste department as well, joined by honey, sugar cookies, and hints of a caramel malt base. Nuts and a buttery creaminess as the beer warms. Alcohol is adequately subdued. Worthy of the hype and the wait. Best beer I've ever had? No, but definitely top 5 or so.
