Year of New Beer: Monkey Fist IPA, Shipyard Brewing (ME)

Sweet caramel malts are about the only thing I get on the nose, but the flavor is a different story-harsh, bitter hop resins blast the taste buds with sharp, grassy waves and little else to provide balance. Hop bitterness is good, better if it showcases the citrus or pine riding a wave of sweet malt backbone. This one doesn't quite get there.
