Year of New Beer: Christmas Ale, West Sixth Brewing (Lexington)

Written By: Dion on 11/23/2013

Those who know me well also know that I generally forego all things Christmas until after the Thanksgiving meal is finished. Today, however, I make an exception. Given an opportunity for a sneak-peak of this new brew, I jumped at the chance. Dark brown with reddish highlights, this one held a sand-colored head for about a minute following a vigorous pour. Immediately the nose is hit with ginger and cardamom, with lesser notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. On the tongue, a sturdy sweet malt base provides a nice vehicle for the spices. Cola-like in the mid-palate, with a hint of pepper. Some raisin and fig whisper in towards a dryer finish, with little evidence of the alcohol content. This is what a Christmas seasonal is supposed to be, well done guys.
