Year of New Beer: Pataskala Red X IPA, Stone Brewing (CA)

Citrus rind anchors the nose, with traces of pine, toasted bread, and caramel malt. On the tongue is a nice amount of bitterness in the way of grapefruit and lemon zest, as well as a perception of melon husk. The hops stand up well to the malt backbone, which provides a balancing, but not overpowering sweetness. I'm typically not a huge fan of "red" IPAs, but this one is well done. Picked up at the Trappe.
