Year of New Beer: Tsunami IPA, Apocalypse Brew Works (Louisville)

This beer is a great example of how differently flavors can be perceived depending on how they are paired. Alone, I wasn't crazy about this. A little malt forward, slightly harsh hop bitterness, and even a touch of almost rye-like spice. Not bad, just a little unbalanced. About one-third of the way through it, our pizza arrived, and things really changed. Chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, and feta combined to really tone down the harshness and let the citrus begin to shine. Probably sheer coincidence, but it sure seemed to work. I have so much to learn about beer and food pairings.
