Year of New Beer: Double Negative, Grimm Artisanal Ales (NY)

A deep, rich nose features cocoa powder, coffee bean, traces of anise, and loads of roasted malt. On the tongue is a smooth, slightly sweet chocolate tinged with smoke and ash. Dark fruits combine with espresso, earthy hops, and almost imperceptible alcohol to round out a nearly perfect imperial stout. Excellent.
