Year of New Beer: Crash, Rhinegeist Brewery (Cincinnati)

Big tropical fruit notes blend nicely with hints of herbal grasses and a lightly roasted malt. On the tongue, grapefruit and orange peel are intertwined with slightly sweet pineapple and traces of melon. The malt backbone is adequate, providing a nice base upon which the hops can really develop with warmth. Dry and a bit grassy on the finish. Plenty of bitterness without being harsh. I find it difficult at times to find a lot of difference in Rhinegeist's hoppy beers, but this one seems to be nuanced to the point of elevating it above many of its stable mates.
