Year of New Beer: Imperial Barleywine Style Ale, Mendocino Brewing (CA)

The nose is loaded with toffee, burnt sugar, and dark fruits, with only hints of citrusy hops. On the tongue the sweetness is thick and coating initially, but gives way to a fairly significant resinous hop bitterness, along with some serious alcohol heat. A little unbalanced, but for a "bargain" barleywine, it isn't bad.
