Year of New Beer: Mango Magnifico, Founder's Brewing Co. (MI)

Mexican stew for dinner calls for a spicy beer, so I turn to this tropical fruit, habanero concoction from one of my favorite breweries. The nose is sweet from the fruit, as expected, but it comes off more like an apple juice to me rather than mango. No hint of habañero at all. On the tongue, an initial jolt of honey sweetness quickly gives way to a building pepper burn. I love the heat, I just wish the syrupy sweetness had been dialed back a bit. This isn't bad, but it's far from the excellence I've come to expect from Founder's.
