Year of New Beer: Pretty Willie's Imperial Stout, Against the Grain Brewery (Louisville)

With the exception of a few draft pours here and there, I haven't purchased many AtG beers over the last couple of years. Simply put, they have been overpriced while underperforming. After hearing some good buzz on this one, I decided to take a chance, and I'm glad I did. The nose is straight bourbon soaked brownie with cursory notes of dark fruit, molasses, and charred malt. On the tongue is a savory-sweet blend of chocolate, brown sugar, light soy, and smoke. Nice oak character with an earthy bitterness that marries well with hints of vanilla, nut, and a mild bourbon heat. Superbly balanced, outstanding barrel aged stout.
