Year of New Beer: Navel Gazer Specialty Batch, New Heights Brewing (Nashville)

After first pouring this, I could have easily written it off and opted for something else. Aroma was very acrid, almost metallic. Things turn around with warmth, however, as a very nice roasted coffee bean builds alongside a slightly sweet chocolate note. On the tongue, espresso and charred toast lead the way, with hints of jerky and burnt sugar along the mid-palate. Dark chocolate is subdued by a finish that pushes just a tad too bitter. Overall, a solid imperial stout that hides its ABV very well.
