Year of New Beer: Berried in the Bluegrass, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

A wild ale with blueberries and blackberries, this one brings the pucker in the best way. The nose is bursting with unripened berries and vinous grape notes. Warmth brings some really nice earthy, leathery tones. The tongue is greeted with an acidic punch that offers up the tart blueberries and blackberries for sure, but also traces of lemon and red wine vinegar. A rise in temperature brings a slight undercurrent of short-lived berry sweetness before returning to its sour, moisture wicking base. West 6th has made some excellent sours, but this one muscles its way into the upper echelon. Well done!
