Year of New Beer: Bourbon County Brand Midnight Orange Stout, Goose Island Beer Company (Chicago)

The Bourbon County beers have always been about decadence, and this particular version is no exception. Huge amounts of chocolate combine with coffee, bourbon, and an orange candy to make up the bulk of the nose. I started this one somewhere between fridge and room temperature, which I think allowed the orange to integrate a little better. So rich on the tongue, with chocolate again taking the lead for me. Bourbon, oak, and slightly charred malts provide a nice counterbalance to the sweeter orange. Not as boozy as I expected given the alcohol content. This one is probably going to be a little polarizing to the Bourbon County purists, but I think it's a nice variant.
