Year of New Beer: Good L'Oven, Boulevard Brewing Co (Kansas City, MO)

I got to try a handful of new things today, all of which were good, but this one stood out. The nose is rich with chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, and cinnamon. Warmth brings out a mild nuttiness and just a hint of vanilla. On the tongue, this is just decadent. The chocolate is creamy and sweet, working with notes of brown sugar and molasses to provide balance to a perfectly executed addition of cinnamon. I'm normally not a huge fan of cinnamon in beer, but this is right on the money, as is pretty much everything about this one. Sweet, with just the right amount of spice, underlying roasty bitterness, and subtle alcohol burn. One of the best beers I've tasted in quite some time.
