Year of New Beer: Kamehameha, Commonwealth Brewing Co (VA)

Starting off, the aroma on this one seems a bit one dimensional, as the rye and brandy barrel influence is pure booze. Plenty of spice and oaky notes. It doesn't take long for warmth to allow dark fruits and baker's chocolate to emerge. Cherry, plum, and grape lead the way. Slow sipping brings the earthy, nutty notes across the middle, with only the faintest hints of sweet coconut. Banana doesn't hit until deep into the glass, where it combines with the brown sugar and caramel notes to deliver a dessert-like punch. This is a big, boozy, decadent treat. And it is delicious.
