Year of New Beer: Más Agave, Founders Brewing Co (MI)

If you're a Founders fan, let's face it...the Barrel Aged Series has basically sucked for several releases in a row. With Más Agave, we have some degree of redemption. This is more margarita than it is beer. Big lime punch on the nose, with the requisite salt ring. Hints of berry and an almost toasted graham cracker. Transitions seamlessly to the tongue, bringing a mildly tart lime that keeps the tequila from dominating. Traces of apple, lemon, and even pineapple. Very light oak with a building sweetness that serves to counter the sour fruits through the finish. Excellent. If you don't like margaritas, don't waste your time with this. But if you do, maybe we'll run into each other when I'm out buying some more.
