Year of New Beer: Rum Barrel Aged Tropical Gose, Blue Stallion Brewing Co (Lexington)

Finally getting around to the second of the 6th Anniversary beers, and all I can say is, "Wow." On the surface, this just doesn't seem like it should work, but it does. Tons of tart fruit on the nose. Obviously the labeled passion fruit is there, along with lime, green apple, and hints of orange. A light rum spice lingers in the background. On the tongue, the rum influence seems to join the tropical fruits and turn this into a de facto tiki cocktail. An underlying caramel sweetness and subtle alcohol heat rounds off the sharpness of the fruit, creating a punch-like effect. The base gose has always been on the low end from the salinity standpoint, and nothing changes in this version, which is probably just as well. This is very enjoyable, start to finish.
