Year of New Beer: Barrel Aged Birthday Bomb, Prairie Artisan Ales (OK)

It doesn't take long for the aroma of this beer to inform you that you have a beast on your hands. Starts with a fairly heavy chocolate note that is joined by caramel, coffee, and a lighter-than-expected bourbon. With a bit of warmth comes a hint of chili peppers. On the tongue, the sweetness reigns. Chocolate, caramel, and vanilla all contribute, eventually overpowering the bulk of the bourbon barrel influence. Nutty with a bit of oak through the middle, turning to a slight syrupy char toward the finish. Bit of an alcohol burn as well, but very little from the chili peppers. An excellent brew, but I'd advise sharing.
