Year of New Beer: Double Two Hearted Ale, Bell's Brewery (MI)

It's a question I hear often--"What's the best beer you've ever had?" Honestly, I don't know the answer to that. But I often say that if I were limited to one beer for the rest of my life, I would choose Bell's Two Hearted Ale. So I'm definitely in for trying a limited, beefed up version. Candied orange and pineapple highlight an aroma that also delivers plenty of caramel, honey, and baked bread. On the tongue, this is quite a bit sweeter than regular Two Hearted, which I expected given the big jump in ABV. Caramel and honey galore, blending nicely with citrus and tropical fruits, giving way to a pretty solid resinous pine and residual alcohol. This reminds me a lot of the OG Bell's Hopslam, and a time before IPAs that look like a glass of grapefruit juice at the Hampton Inn breakfast bar. Love both styles. Gonna enjoy this six pack.
