Year of New Beer: Trippin Froots, Mirror Twin Brewing Co (Lexington)

My, my, how time flies. It feels like just yesterday that National Avenue got a new resident, and now here they are celebrating their third birthday. Tomorrow kicks off a three day party that you don't want to miss! If you haven't heard Trippin Roots play live, that alone is reason enough to come out. Add in a collaboration beer with the band, and it becomes a no-brainer. An already juicy New England IPA base is amped up with a plethora of fruit purees, delighting the senses with citrus and tropical notes. Lime and tangerine seem to dominate early, with a light pineapple coming on as the glass warms. The mango is faint and a touch sweet. On the tongue, the citrus side of the equation again takes charge, providing an initial punch of lime zest and orange pith. Pineapple and mango add trace amounts of sweetness, but ultimately give way to dry, moderately bitter fruit peel. Very mild warming alcohol through the finish, along with hints of dank herbs. Really tasty beverage, and a great way to kick off what is sure to be a great weekend.
